Insignificant

Who is the most important person to you?

Who is the most ‘significant person’ to you?

A truthful answer to either of those questions would be ‘You’.

It is not an answer anyone is going to like. Nevertheless, it is the true answer. We are the centre of our Universe, and everything revolves around us. We are the ‘Person of Significance’. Nothing wrong with it. The sense of ‘self’ is what defines us, and makes each one of unique.

Sometimes though, we are able to step out of our universe, albeit for brief moments, to experience something new, something true.

I went on a holiday, after a long time.

My holiday destinations usually end up on the beachside or in urban jungles. This time, for a change, I decided to travel to some place I have never been, and to see some things I have never seen.

There are rivers, and then, there are ‘The Rivers’. It was mesmerizing to see a mighty river with clear green waters, running along my travel path.

My travel took me upriver, and it was humbling to see the numerous waterfalls - big and small, flowing down from the mountains to mingle with and be a part of the river.

Further up the mountains, the rivers had carved a wide beautiful valley which cycles between grass, flowers and ice depending on the season.

Slowly the vehicles approached the top of the mountain, and soon I was up close with the snow clad peaks.

There is something about seeing a snow clad mountain peak up close. So close that you could actually touch it. So close that you are surrounded by its fog. A sight so pure, that it changes something inside you forever.

I had read in school, that water evaporates to form clouds, clouds come in contact with each other or with a mountain which causes rain, and the rain water flows as river and the cycle continues. I’m not even sure if I’m recollecting this properly or if this holds good anymore. But that is exactly what I saw.

My hotel room had a direct view of yet another snowy mountain. I saw some dark clouds in the distance, and they were travelling in the direction of the mountain. The closer they came, the bigger they were and darker they became. The clouds neared the mountain peak, and moments later I saw rain drops decorating the glass pane of my room’s window.

Exactly at that moment, I became Insignificant.
