Symbol of freedom
What it really means
Not so long ago, there existed a place, in the corner of every living room or study room.
That place had a table and chair.
And on the table, was a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and a black box connected to your telephone line.
Switch them all on, you heard a series of beeps and static noise, and you went online.
This was the place where you had Internet.
You went to that place, when you wanted Internet - to check mails, to pay bills, to read some news.
And more importantly, when you left that place, you left Internet.
When that place existed,
Your world was small.
Your time passed a bit slower.
Your friends existed away from Internet.
You sought appreciation from, and you gave your opinions to people who you knew, and people who really mattered.
You bought stuff from your neighbourhood store, after chatting and maybe haggling a bit with the store owner.
Your knowledge came from books, written by people who had authority on the subject.
You did not worry about forest fires in amazon, because you did not know about it.
You had the skill of ’staying bored, without doing anything’
That place exists now, In a tiny screen in your hands.
With that, you lost the ability to leave Internet.
And when you lost your ability to leave Internet, My dear friend
You lost it all.
